Where do the alligators live?

--

With all the rain - the ditches in our front yard and our neighbor's front yard have stayed full and the girls are totally enthralled! Everytime they get out of the truck, they run to the ditches saying they have to get the alligators..
--
The following conversation ensued Tuesday evening:
--
Me: Brooklyn, where are you going?
--
Brooklyn: I going to get the alligators!
--
Me: Where do the alligators live?
--
Brooklyn: In the water.
--
Me: Where is the water?
--
Brooklyn: In the bitch.
--
Me: {trying hard not to laugh} - Brooklyn - it is a ditch.
--
Brooklyn: Oh - in the bitch...
--
P.S. - I hestitated to post this because of the "b" word - but it was too funny not to post for future laughter! She is so cute saying it as she really thinks she is saying ditch! This morning - she was telling us again and Bella was correcting her saying "No D as in Daddy - Ditch"! Too cute...

What did you vote for?

--
The girls went with me to vote this evening after school/work and when I completed my ballot (not electronic) and had "fed" it to the machine - one the individuals working gave me my "I voted" sticker as well as one to each of the girls! The girls kept saying that they had "boted" and when I asked Bella what she voted for, she said "a sticker"!!!!
--
A little fun fact about Election Day:
--
Why do we vote on a Tuesday... in November?
--
The short answer: We used to be a nation of farmers.
--
The long answer: Congress chose November because the harvest was over and the weather wouldn't be bad enough to prevent people from traveling.
--
As for Tuesday, people used to have to travel overnight to their polling location. (In 1845, horse was the preferred method of transport.) In an effort to avoid religious days of rest, Congress chose Tuesday, leaving Monday and Wednesday as travel days. Tuesday was voting (and horse-resting) day.

From the mouth of Bella...

Just a few things Bella has said lately that have left us laughing and/or shaking our heads wondering where she ever could have heard that!

  • Ah Man!!!!
  • I got to tell my friends (said this when I told her the swing set was arriving on Friday)
  • Momma, I hang these up with the magets! (that would be magNets, we do not have maggots in or around our home).
  • Momma, I not big, I still small...but I big enough (have no idea where this came from)!
  • Momma, hush! Brooke is sleeping (this has been said a couple of times while we are in the car and I'm talking to Brannon).
  • Momma, I otay..I just a little sick! (this was said on the way to school after she had coughed one time. I usually ask if they are okay after they cough, but I guess she anticipated the question -so she just gave me the answer - that's being proactive in my opinion)!
I know there are more, I just cannot think of any more right now! She definitely keeps us entertained!!!

A few more conversations...

--

Last night we were driving home from school and I always try to get Bella to tell me about her day (I also ask Brooklyn but she usually just smiles at me)!
--
Bella bowed her head and got her "upset" face on and this was the conversation:

Bella: I bad at school today.
Me: You were bad at school today? What did you do?
Bella: Abby Tate (it is actually Abby Kate) hit me.
Me: Abby Kate hit you today? Did Abby Kate say she was sorry?
Bella: BIG PIG!! (haha - she had a library book in her lap about going to a farm and I guess she found a big pig)

So I don't know exactly what happened at school - but she was very glad when Abby Kate got there this morning - so I guess there were no hard feelings.

This conversation took place in the bathroom last night and again this morning while Bella was using her potty as a stool (I mean what else is a potty for) and making faces in the mirror:

Me: Bella, what are you doing in the bathroom?
Bella: I justa lookin at myself

This conversation took place this morning when I was getting Bella up to get dressed for school:

Me: (turning on light in my bedroom - b/c this is where Bella slept again last night)
Bella: It's too bright; turn light off; it's too bright
Me: Good morning. It's time to wake up - time to face the day
Bella: turn light off; it too bright!

She did finally get out of bed but then the usual battle of getting her dressed began! The joys of a 2-year old!

Conversations with a 2-year old

Here are some recent things Bella has said!

* Momma, you really need to get Brooke. Brooke is crying. Bella don't want take nap eifher. (This was last Saturday during what was supposed to be naptime. Bella kept coming in and out of her room and Brooklyn was obviously crying - neither took a nap that day)

* It's so wonderful (This has been said alot lately - one time was when we told her that she and Brannon were going to be planting flowers last weekend and she could watch them grow; another time was when I was telling her about her Easter party at school - which they missed because they got to spend the day with Nana instead)

* I got bones (She says this whenever she coughs - she'll adapt it to whoever is coughing - Brooke got bones; You got bones, Momma)

* You breakin my heart (This has been said a couple of times in the past week. First - we were in Walgreen's and she saw something she wanted and I told her no - she bowed her head, made the most pitiful "pouty" face and then looked at me and said that; another time was around 3 AM on Friday morning when I was telling her it was time to go to bed...)
--
* Look Momma, Bella get pretty. This Bella dress. (This was said Sunday when Brannon was getting the girls dressed for Church).
--
I know there are more - I wish I could record everything she says! She is talking more and more and I love the conversations we have together!

You Tell Me..

The other night, I think it was Monday, Bella and I were looking at something (a book I presume) and I asked her what something was and her response was "you tell me"!!! Oh that girl!

Thank You, Lady

We've tried to teach Bella to say "please" and "thank you" and we've actually done pretty well at this task - very rarely do we have to prompt her to say either. Brooklyn will even sign thank-you with very little prompting!

Anyway, on to my story. The girls and I were at Wal-Mart or the grocery store one day and as we were leaving the check-out, I said to Bella "tell the lady thank-you" and she took me very literally and said "Thank You, Lady" in the sweetest little voice! The nice lady just chuckled. She has continued to say this to people when she says thank you but does not know the person's name. My philosophy is at least she is being polite!

Omigosh!

So it rained alot last night (Thursday). It wasn't just a downpour that lasted a few minutes, it was a downpour that lasted quite a while! The ditch that runs through our front yard was full and overflowing into the street, to the point that you could not tell where our yard ended and the street began! We were looking out our front door and I said something to the effect of "the ditch is gone" and Bella came back inside saying "omigosh, the ditch is gone, oh no!"!! It was so funny and cute - I think she was geniunely concerned about the ditch!
