Playing in the Rain

--
Last Thursday it rained and when we got home the girls spotted some water dripping from the eaves of the house and the ensuing puddle! They slowly made their way down to where the water was and while I thought about telling them no - I decided not to stop them! We were already home for the night and they really liked playing with the dripping water and stomping in the puddle!

Hair

--
Bella loves for me to fix her hair - her current style of choice is to have it braided, sometimes with all of her hair up and sometimes with just some of it up. Brooklyn is quickly joining Bella in wanting me to fix her hair as well. Weekend before last, Brooklyn found some ponytail holders, aka, ponies and wanted me to put her hair up using ALL the ponies!

--
Ignore the fact that my child is only wearing her diaper - but for some reason they love to just wear their diaper/panties when at home and who am I to argue - less laundry, right?

September 11th...

--
Here's a quote from a government employee who witnessed a recent interaction between an elderly woman and an antiwar protester in a Metro station in DC.
--
There were protesters on the train platform handing out pamphlets on the evils of America .
--
I politely declined to take one.
--
An elderly woman was behind me getting off the escalator and a young (20-ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined.
--
The young protester put her hand on the old woman's shoulder as a gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice said, 'Lady, don't you care about the children of Iraq ?'
--
The old woman looked up at her and said, 'Honey, my father died in France during World War II, I lost my husband in Korea , and a son in Vietnam. All three died so you could have the right to stand here and bad mouth our country. If you touch me again, I'll stick this umbrella up your ass and open it.'

Remembering all those, military and civilians, who lost their lives on September 11th and in the war that followed and all those that serve to protect our freedoms!

LOVE BUGS are EVERYWHERE!!!!

--
The lovebug, Plecia nearctica, is a member of the family of march flies. It is also known as the honeymoon fly, telephonebug, kissybug or double-headedbug. The adult is a small, flying insect common to parts of Central America and the southeastern United States, especially along the Gulf Coast[1].
--
The lovebug was first described in 1940 by D. E. Hardy from Galveston, Texas. At that time, he reported the incidence of lovebugs to be widespread, but most common in Texas and Louisiana[1]. By the end of the 20th century, however, the species had spread heavily to all areas bordering the Gulf of Mexico, as well as Georgia, and South Carolina. L. A. Hetrick, writing in 1970, found it very widespread in Florida and described its flights as reaching altitudes of 300 m to 450 m and extending several kilometers over the Gulf[2]. In 2006, it was reported as far north as Wilmington, North Carolina[1].

Happy Grandparents Day!

--
Did you know that today was National Grandparents Day? President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day, making this year the:

Some information about National Grandparents Day:

Purpose
This day has a threefold purpose:
To honor grandparents
To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children.
To help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.

Facts
In 1970, a West Virginia housewife, Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade, initiated a campaign to set aside a special day just for Grandparents. Through concerted efforts on the part of civic, business, church, and political leaders, this campaign expanded statewide. Senator Jennings Randolph (D-WV) was especially instrumental in the project. The first Grandparents Day was proclaimed in 1973 in West Virginia by Governor Arch Moore. Also in 1973, Senator Randolph introduced a Grandparents Day resolution in the United States Senate. The resolution languished in committee.Mrs. McQuade and her team turned to the media to garner support. They also began contacting governors, senators, congressmen in every state. And they sent letters to churches, businesses, and numerous national organizations interested in senior citizens. In 1978, five years after its West Virginia inception, the United StatesCongress passed legislation proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. The proclamation was signed by President Jimmy Carter. (September was chosen for the holiday, to signify the "autumn years" of life.)Today this event, begun by only a few, is observed by millions throughout the United States.

Facts About The Founder of Grandparents Day
A native of Fayette County, Marian McQuade and her husband Joe are the parents of 15 children. They have 40 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. McQuade began a campaign in 1970 to set aside a day for grandparents; yet her work with senior citizens dates back to 1956, beginning with the Past Eighty Party, (originated by Jim Comstock, editor of the West Virginia Hillbilly). Mrs. McQuade has worked in several states with seniors. Iin 1971, she was elected Vice-Chairman of the West Virginia Committee on Aging and appointed as delegate to the White House Conference on Aging by Governor Arch A. Moore. In 1972, Mrs. McQuade's efforts helped persuade President Richard Nixon to proclaim a National Shut-in Day.
--
Having served as President of the Vocational Rehabilitation Foundation, Vice-President of the West Virginia Health Systems Agency, appointed to the Nursing Home Licensing Board and having served as Co-chairman for the Bi-Centennial Centenarian Search for the West Virginia Commission on Aging, Mrs. McQuade has dedicated her life to advocating for senior citizens--pprticularly the most elderly.

Observance/Suggested Activities
Grandparents Day is a family day. Schools, churches, and senior organizations honor grandparents with special events. Some families enjoy small, private gatherings. Others celebrate by holding a family reunion. Board games which are easily played by young and old add enjoyment to family gatherings, enhancing "intergenerational interaction". For those who entertain large groups, it can be fun to have a story-telling time, allowing grandparents to relate stories of their past, enlightening children about " the old days." Also interesting is to take a census, such as oldest and newest grandchild, family with the most grandchildren, and families with five generation present. Most important, Grandparents Day can signify a loving spirit that lives winin us throughout the year--a spirit of love and respect for our elders.

Today is Picture Day

--
Today is picture day at school for the girls!! They wore matching dresses (I know, I know - but to be honest they like dressing alike - they often choose to do so). Bella wanted her hair braided and Brooklyn doesn't care yet - she just wanted her hair like Bebba's... I must say I think they looked pretty cute - but I am a bit biased..
--
Of course, I had to take pictures of them before we left the house - although I hope they are more cooperative for the "real" camera today!
--
These are about the "best" ones that I got..They were more interested in their morning crackers than in me taking their pictures!
